Has it happened to you that you wake up feeling like you are already behind? I mean, the alarm is on, you hit snooze and before you know it you are rushing out to the door because you are late and trying to get a cup of coffee on your way to survive this chaotic day. A rushed morning can star a chaos for the day making you feel stressed, overwhelmed and also tired and unfocus. But what if I told you that I was feeling the same way until I made a couple of changes that made a huge difference? Would you believe me?
Starting your day with a successful morning routine isnt about waking at 4 am to do meditation, journaling and clean the house. It only about a couple of simple actions that will set you up for a day of energy and productivity. The key to all of this is your consistency, not to make things and routine harder. For that ill give you a simple guide with 3 steps to have a successful morning routine
1. Start hydrated and moving your body
Before getting into your phone or grabbing a cup of coffe give your body something that it actually needs: water and a little bit of movement. I know that we all want that extra dose of energy from coffee but keep in midn that your body is just waking up dehydrated after a full night of sleep and working to heal anything that was going on in it. The action of sstarting your day with a large glass of water is gonna kick start your metabolism, rehydrate your body and promote a good cognitive function. Think of it as warming up the engine of your car on a cold morning.
After you have hydrated, add some movement. It doesn’t mean a full workout with weights and jumps and HIIT. It means doing some simple stretches or even a few yoga poses. This will get your blood flowing, release endorphins and get rid of some sleepness. It will ljust tell your body its time to wake up and be ready for the day.
2. Mindful Moments
About 80% of the people get into their phones first thing as they wake up. This means exposing yourself straight to notifications, emails, social media and a whole chaos of information after being relaxed for a couple of hours. We tend to start focusing on other people instead of focusing first on ourselves and theres where we will make a change because we will protect this precious me time in the morning. Instead of getting to your phone lets stard with a few minutes of mindful practice. This can be anything that makes you feel calm and present. Try a 5 in meditation or 5 min journaling and writing 3 things why you are grateful. This will help you shift from a state of chaos to one of intention.
If you don’t like to meditate you can simply enjoy your water or cofee, look out of the window listen some calm music a dntake a deep breaths. The goal is to create a peace state before jumping in into everything that is waiting ahead of you for the day. Start always with intention so that you are proactive and not reactive.
3. Prioritize your top 3 tasks
Before you jump into your day take a moment to identify yout most important tasks for the day. This doesn’t mean go and make a list of everything that needs to be accomplisehd but instead try to focus on just three key aftivities that if completed would make your day a success.
Next write this three tasks in a paper. Having them in a physical or digital list makes you keep focused and in tentional along the day, and will make you keep focused among what is urgent and what is truly important from what its not. By idenifying this priorities you are guiding your day to success.
So once you have this one set, you an start with your first task knowing that you are already working towards something that needs to be achieved along the day, so even if you get distracted or sidetracked by unexpected things or meetings, you will already have your target set up and it will be easiert to get back on track.
This easy actions are meant to help with decision making and provide clarity so that you know your priorities and you wont be carried away by major distractions, which will make you feel accomplished as you achieve your activities along day.
Did you see? Setting up your day for succes isnt a complex ritual at all, its all about making it easier and prioritizing things.
